to all of our services (see current month calendar).
We also conduct additional opportunities to learn more about Buddhism as follows:
"FOURTH SUNDAY"
INTRODUCES BUDDHISM to the Community --
The Buddhist Education Committee has begun a "Fourth Sunday" program to introduce Buddhism and the Temple to
interested members of the community. The program runs on the Fourth Sunday of each month, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.,
and meets in the Sangha Hall.
The program consists of a simple opening service, a brief overview of the teachings of Buddha, the Pure Land School,
and the everyday Buddhism of the Jodo Shinshu tradition. The one-hour session also covers the etiquette used at our
Temple and concludes with a Q&A.
Following the class, participants are invited to attend the Family Service at 10 a.m. to hear Rev. Mukojima's Dharma
message. After the service, a tour of the Temple will be given to those interested.
Bill Teague, Chair of the Buddhist Education Committee, expects participants to include college students studying world
religions as well as interested members of the community.
The BEC also invites new and prospective members to the introductory class at any time. In the past, new members were
expected to learn Temple etiquette and traditions on their own and through observance, but the Fourth Sunday program
can provide background and presents an opportunity for new members to have some of their questions about the
Temple answered.
The program will run through this year, except for the months of May and December. Members of the Buddhist
Education Committee include Kaytee Sumida and Paul Yasuhara.
We invite anyone with an interest in Buddhism or the Temple to attend one of the Fourth Sunday introductions.
